Deon Theron, enigmatic artist who never went to formal art school, ascribes his success to an inner drive fuelled by passion – an effervescent character trait found in all highfliers who achieve master strokes. How did this Tuks music major, concert pianist and clarinet teacher end up in the fine arts arena? Deon says he witnessed a friend creating a little watercolour sketch one day and this experience both fascinated and inspired him so much he started painting the next day!

Although Deon initially painted in watercolours, over the years he has grown into an acrylic artisan who applies his medium to canvas in a fluid technique, creating visual poetry.

Deon’s work consist of gentle, impressionist images in which caressing colours blend into shimmering, glimmering paintings emanating a flowing atmosphere, He achieves this effect with ultra-soft edges: seamless transitions from one subject to the next. And even though a flower might flow into a flamingo with the casual effortlessness of a seasoned flamenco dancer’s moves, Deon sustains both clarity and drama in all of his artwork – power, balanced with grace.
